The wind blowing in off Lake Monona was great this afternoon and the gulls were just floating around on these amazing air currents. Sometimes they’d dip down by our heads, other times they’d just float up higher or out over the lake. They’d linger and stare; watch us watch them watch us.
When people lose someone close to them they often search for deeper cosmic or spiritual meanings in the regular happenings of day-to-day life and so, while I’m tempted to say this whole show seemed a little too purposeful to simply be gulls hanging out above our heads, I know that the truth is this: the world is a mysterious and exciting place and if you could keep your eyes open all the time, you’d never miss a minute of it.
